Diplomats and Domains is a fictional tabletop role-playing game featured in Primos.
Background[]
In "Summer of Primos", while Tater is tidying up and putting away her primos' belongings, Gordita hands her a game called Diplomats and Domains. Intrigued by its resemblance to the classic game Dungeons and Dragons, Tater decides to give it a try.
Initially, Tater begins a solo session in the corner of the room. Enthusiastically, she declares that capturing a cornfield will make her the "Corn King." Her excitement catches Gordita's attention, who promptly corrects her on how to properly play the game before joining her in the session. Just as they are getting into the groove, Nachito rushes past on his way to the bathroom but stops, intrigued by their gameplay. He asks to watch, and Tater eagerly agrees.
Soon, more cousins start appearing in groups, drawn by the game's allure. Lita and Big Nacho are the first to join, followed by ChaCha, LotLot, and Scooter, then Cousin Bud, and finally, the T Sisters. The room fills with laughter, strategy discussions, and playful banter as everyone gets involved in the session.
As the game progresses, Gordita starts pulling ahead. Lita congratulates her, calling her a beast, but Tater reminds everyone that the game isn't over yet. Tater explains that she could win if she secures a waterway, but she's missing the necessary cards. Seizing the opportunity, Gordita offers to trade two seaport cards in exchange for changes to their roommate agreement, specifically lifting the no music rule. Tater agrees to the trade, and soon, other trades follow suit: Tere offers her gold mine card for permission to use perfume, Nachito trades cards for his nightlight, and Big Nacho offers to trade anything in exchange for the right to toot in the room. Tater agrees to all trades except Big Nacho's, much to everyone's amusement.
The session is in full swing when the parents return, finding the hallway in disarray. Gustavo, one of the parents, notices the game and fondly recalls how he and his siblings (and primos) used to love playing it. This sparks an idea in Tater, who enthusiastically announces a new challenge: "Primos vs. Tío Con." The stakes are high—winners take all, and the losers must clean the hall.
The announcement is met with cheers and playful competitive spirits, as the family prepares for an epic showdown in the world of Diplomats and Domains. The game not only brings them together for an unforgettable adventure but also bridges generations, creating a shared bond through storytelling, strategy, and a touch of family rivalry.
