"Summer of Calabazas y Tostones" is the first segment of the twenty-third episode of the first season of Primos, and the forty-fifth episode overall.
It released early on March 5, 2025 on Disney+ and officially premiered on March 23, 2025 on Disney Channel, alongside with Summer of El Demo.
Synopsis
Tater joins a tabletop role-playing game but her main-character vibe conflicts with her assigned support role.
Plot
Lita, LotLot, Big Nacho, and Cousin Bud are playing Calabazas y Tostones, a D&D style game with vegetable characters. Tater, having recently turned ten, asks to join their game as her character, a large lv. 99 potato warrior. However, she is told that she cannot start off at such a big level, and secondly every time she rolls the dice, she always lands on a 1, which has little effect. Despite demanding a do over, she is told that she cannot as the game will not allow it. Additionally, Tater's recklessness results in her repeatedly getting killed and needing to be revived by the other players.
As the game progresses, Tater attempts to perform one special move after another, always landing on 1, and is constantly falling for traps and other faulty terrain, resulting in her dying and needing to be revived several times over. Thinking that the game has been rigged against her, Tater lashes out demanding that she is above the rules and wants to be on her own. She claims that she will start her own game that doesn't have rules and makes her own die where all the sides are 20. Tater "plays" her new game, but she finishes it easily and realizes that she isn't having any fun while her primos clearly are.
Bibi finds Tater atop the fridge where the latter admits that she wasn't having any fun and claims that the primos were mean to her. Bibi refrains herself from punishing anyone and instead suggests that Tater give the game another shot, but follow the rules. Even if she doesn't get what she wants, she should still be able to make it work. Tater goes back and this time decides to follow the rules. Even though she lands on a 1, she manages to make it work and helps her primos out. Tater realizes that it is more fun to follow the game mechanics and start off small before growing. After the game, Bibi reenters the kitchen to find the whole place in disarray.
