Synopsis[]
Tater helps Gordita access her inner artist to make a special gift for Buela.
Plot[]
Buela's birthday is tomorrow and the primos are at a loss over what to get her. Tater comes up with the best solution: each of them will create a square cloth that when put together will form a new blanket to replace Buela's old and battered version. The primos are excited by the idea, except for Gordita. While Gordita loves Buela, she has the issue of not understanding the point of art and is unsure if she can create anything artistic. Tater takes Gordita to see Bibi to ask for help, but it is revealed that Bibi forgot Buela's birthday and feigns taking the garage possum to the vet so that she can get a gift for Buela.
Tater takes Gordita around the town to look at various forms of art, but the latter is incapable of understanding it. Even looking at what the other primos are doing with their quilt pieces does little to inspire her. Tater decides to take a direct approach with her by putting her in an environment to help her concentrate and think. Meanwhile, Bibi and her brothers, who also forgot Buela's birthday, are running around the store in an attempt to look for a gift that would impress her. Tater sets Gordita in front of her canvas and puts on numerous sounds and smells so that she can get a sensory experience.
Gordita goes into a flashback when Buela introduced her to crossword puzzles. Having found her heart, Gordita finally begins work on her quilt piece. The next day, Tater puts all the pieces together and presents the new quilt to Buela who adores it. She takes notice of Gordita's piece (a crossword puzzle with Buela's name spelled out) and is proud of it. Buela hugs the primos and asks to see what the parents came up with, only to find them gone. It is revealed that humiliated by the primos gift, they have opted to simply flee and head across the border to Mexico and change their identities.
