Synopsis
Tater learns that Lita's relationship with Tía Rita differs greatly from her own with Bibi.
Plot
Tater is hanging out with Lita who successfully teaches her how to play the ukulele. When Tater shows her new skill to her mother in a friendly way, Lita is noticeably embarrassed by it, pointing out that she and her mother don't have that kind of relationship. Her mother and Bibi's sister, Rita, sends her, Scooter, and Lucita gifts. Scooter and Lucita get fabric and a chapter book, respectively, while Lita gets a fleecy dress. It quickly becomes apparent that Rita and Lita's relationship is not great with Rita not being impressed with any of Lita's hobbies. This is made apparent on video chat where she briefly freaks out over writing on Lita's arm.
Tater feels that she once again need to interfere somehow and makes herself up to look like Tia Rita. She approaches Lita and offers to be her mom for the day, which she bemusingly agrees to. Every activity that they do for the day typically ends with Lita expressing that her mother would never respond positively to any of it. Baking cookies ends with the cookies getting burnt, painting has Lita critiquing minor inconsistencies in her painting, and the clothing she chooses do not mesh with what Rita would like. Lita finally tells Tater that she cannot be her mother because of these, with Tater angrily, and briefly, following Rita's example, much to Lita's horror.
Lita finally finishes recording her demo with a really sad song, clearly influenced by her relationship with her mother. Tater likes it and suggests sending it to her for her to listen. While Lita worries what her mother will say, she ultimately agrees. Rita hears the song and is about to record another overly complex message when she realizes that Lita is growing up to be just like her. Later, Lita gets a message from her mom that simply has her saying "I heard your demo, it's good," before hanging up. While short and simple, it is enough for Lita to accept that it is a perfect response and thanks Tater for helping her get through today.
