"Summer of El Patín" is the first segment of the seventh episode of the first season of Primos, and the thirteenth episode overall.
It released early on July 26, 2024 on Disney+, and officially premiered on August 10, 2024 on Disney Channel, alongside with Summer of Chisme.
Synopsis[]
Tater, determined to learn ice skating, seeks lessons from the mysterious and talented skater 'El Patín'.
Plot[]
Tater is looking through the mail to find her latest issue of Romancimorphs Magazine. She finds an ad revealing that Hacienda Hills is holding auditions for Romanicmorphs on Ice. Tater believes that part of her final form involves her becoming an "Ice-Tater" and makes plans to become a professional ice skater, though Nellie points out how ridiculous that sounds. At the ice rink, it becomes evident that Tater has zero ice skating abilities. She is in awe of a costumed muscular skater named El Patín whose identity is unknown to everyone as he has a habit of disappearing. After grabbing a piece of his clothing, Tater gets ChaCha to scent him out.
Tater is lead to a dumpster at the side of the ice rink and finds a hidden entrance to reveal the El Patín costume as well as Scooter who pathetically tries to hide. Tater realizes that they are one and the same and Scooter comes clean about his secret hobby of skating. The reason he wears a costume is because he is nervous about showing off his talents. Tater agrees to keep his secret so that he can train her to be a better skater. During the training, Tater learns that Scooter made the costume himself and asks that he do the same for her. Together, the two of them audition for Romancimorphs on Ice as a costumed duo.
At the audition, Tater and Scooter do an excellent job wowing the crowd with their performance. During a particular move, Scooter's mask comes off, causing him to freeze up. The rest of the primos cheer him on as Tater removes her mask and eases Scooter to continue the routine with her. They stick the landing and get a 10 across the board, however Tater forgot to read the fine print that the auditions were for those 16 and older, though Tater is confident that this means she can try again. Scooter thanks Tater for boosting his confidence. Later, Lita discovers that Buela also doubles as a masked ice skater.

Trivia[]
Prouctions[]
- Workprints of the Cookita and Lucita versions of this episode, alongside Summer of Chisme, was leaked online on September 11, 2024, however the links were removed via DMCA a few hours later.
- The earlier workprint, with a date labeled August 25, 2023, has plenty early animation and alternate dialogue takes that were redone in the later workprint.
- Some notable instances of early animation include;
- The "Food / Snacks" banner inside Hacienda Skate having "Terremoto Skate" written on the yellow triangular shape. This was erased when the town's name change came about.
- ChaCha's movement being more dog-like as she sniffs out Scooter's hiding place. ChaCha is also later seen with the rest of the primos after Tater reads the flyer's fine print. Although this was erased in later revisions of the episode, ChaCha is still seen next to Lucita in the close-up shot.
- Tater's eyes dilating as she's about to throw up.
- The license plate of Lita's ice resurfacer reading "Bonizam" instead of "Chenoa".
- The latter half of the episode in this workprint features a temp soundtrack, with songs like The Time Is Now (John Cena song), Chariots of Fire (instrumental), and Come With Me (Puff Daddy song).
- The later workprint is identical to the Hacienda version, except for Hacienda Hills being referred to as Terremoto Heights, and the City Dump being visible.
Revelation & significant events[]
- Scooter is revealed to be skilled in ice dancing, singing and costume making.
- This episode reveals that Lita also works at a the ice skating rink.
- Tater mentions the fact that she has barely met with Scooter this summer. It took the character seven episodes to speak for the first time. He is credited for speaking in "Summer of La Naturaleza", though it was mainly when the primos were speaking as a group.
Errors & Goofs[]
- Despite the actual animation for this segment was done at Sugarcube, it mistakenly credited as Snipple Animation Studios.
- Despite every other instance being erased in the Hacienda version, the "Terremoto Skate" lettering can still be seen behind Scooter, as El Patín, when he sings the lyric "It lets me spin". At most, O, E, and those little flurry lines are barely identifiable.
