Synopsis[]
Tater goes silent.
Plot[]
The episode begins in medias res with Tater safe and quiet under the water while Nellie, in the form of a jellyfish, attempts to bug her to no avail. Earlier that day, Tater and her family are once again with Hector the vendor where just like before, Tater is confronted with trying to ask him for a churro in Spanish. This time, Tater successfully does so and happily prides herself on it. Two older women come by and ask for directions, but Tater cannot reply. This causes one of the women to rudely rebuff her, which Bud takes notice of. Tater suddenly begins to feel emotionally traumatized by the encounter.
Back at home, Tater asks the primos how they all managed to learn Spanish and what the trick is, but the primos tell her that they know it based on the fact that they grew up with it around them and that they just know how to do it. Tater sadly goes to her father and ponders if learning Spanish is worthy of being part of her dreams. Bud admits that her mother might have a better answer to give and tells her that it's okay to have "one less dream", though he later regrets this and believes he made things worse. Tater ponders through her Spanish beginner's book and, fed up with being seen as a "no sabo kid", decides to take a vow of silence.
The primos and Nellie start to notice how quiet it is and find Tater huddled on the floor. They attempt to get her to speak up, but she refuses to budge. Ultimately, she reveals what she has been doing and how she envies the fact that they have "perfect" Spanish. The primos admit that they aren't perfect. Toñita constantly forgets regional words, Big Nacho and Nachito are bad at writing due to their dyslexia, and Lita is always getting quizzed by her mother. Everyone learns at their own pace. Lita gives Tater a Spanish dictionary to help her out. Seeing that Tater has returned to her old self, Bud asks Tater if he could join her with learning Spanish and she agrees.
